T. T. Perry, Ph.D. (they/them) shares original research by the Genital Autonomy Collective, a transnational peer network of trans, intersex, and/or gender-expansive people.
The poster session titled “A Thematic Analysis of Transgender, Intersex, and Gender-Diverse Experiences of (Violated) Genital Autonomy“ was first presented by T.T. Perry, Allie Arshad and Pallas Lysander-Romberg in October 2025 at the Gay & Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA) 43rd Annual Conference on LGBTQ+ Health in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Perry and Allie both serve on the Advisory Council of the Genital Autonomy Legal Defense and Education Fund (GALDEF).
This autoethnographic study summarized testimonials from members of the Genital Autonomy Collective regarding both unwanted genital cutting and gender-affirming care. The poster documents how violations of bodily integrity and autonomy caused by unwanted genital modifications, including circumcision, produce diverse and significant harms.
The poster also presented positive exercises of bodily autonomy, such as gender affirming care and foreskin restoration, that promoted healing and comfort. A reference copy of the poster is available here, and a video walk-through of the poster content is available on the GALDEF YouTube channel here.

Allie Arshad, T.T. Perry and Pallas Lysander-Romberg highlighted circumcision and genital autonomy issues from gender-diverse perspectives at the Gay & Lesbian Medical Association’s annual conference.
