GALDEF has produced a new brochure that offers a novel framing of the topic of newborn circumcision. Titled “Newborn Circumcision and Consent: Long-Term Perspectives,” the brochure raises the central question of whose consent should take precedence: the parents’ or the child’s. It also highlights the many harms that circumcision sufferers experience and asks readers to ponder questions such as “How will you explain this choice to your son if he later wishes he had not been circumcised?”
The brochure is intended to offer a new framework within which parents and the general public can consider the issue of long-term harm from violations of children’s genital autonomy. The downloadable/printable brochure can be accessed under the Brochures subtab on the GALDEF website.
