On July 18 and 19 an estimated 45,000 people attended the 2026 Waterfront Pride Festival in Portland, OR. Members of GALDEF and Portland’s Genital Autonomy Collective helped staff the Intact Global booth at Tom McCall Waterfront Park.

During the two-day event, booth staffers explained the landmark nature of the Hadachek v. Oregon equal protection lawsuit. Visitors overwhelmingly expressed their support for the legal challenge to Oregon’s current anti-female genital mutilation statute on the basis that the law constitutes sex discrimination, making the statute unconstitutional, a finding with which we hope the judge in the case will concur.

Booth visitors were also encouraged to attend the hearing at the Multnomah County Courthouse at 1:30pm on September 14 to show public support for equal protection of all children from unnecessary and unwanted genital surgeries. The judge will hear a motion by Intact Global for summary judgement, i.e., asking the court to decide the lawsuit without a full trial and resolve legal issues where the undisputed facts clearly support one side, making a trial unnecessary to determine the truth. To succeed, the moving party (Intact Global) must demonstrate through evidence such as depositions, affidavits, and documents that no reasonable jury could find in favor of the opposing party (State of Oregon). If granted, the case is decided immediately on the merits; if denied, the case proceeds to trial where those factual disputes will be resolved.
