On June 15th Intact Global held a news conference on the steps of the Colorado State Capitol building in Denver to announce an equal protection lawsuit naming the State and the Governor as defendants. The lawsuit, Huff v. Colorado, challenges the state statute that protects only females from genital cutting, to the exclusion of male and intersex children at similar or more severe risks of harm from socially-motivated genital cutting. The lawsuit contends that the statute establishes sex discrimination, which is illegal under Colorado’s state constitution.

The Colorado filing follows a similar filing by Intact Global in 2025 in the state of Oregon  (Hadachek v. Oregon). In both cases, the goal is not to strike down protections for females, but to seek judicial decisions ordering the state legislatures to remedy the discrimination by rewriting the language of the statutes to be gender neutral and expanding protection to all children equally.
